Frequently Asked Questions
Websites
You need to tell us about the material you have and what you are trying to achieve. Do you want to incorporate data from an existing system such as iFamily or Family Tree Maker? Do you want us to write the pages or would you prefer to write them yourselves and just have us turn your work into a website? Are you looking for something interactive so that people can post comments or ask questions? What sort of style website would you like, something formal or informal? Having looked at our portfolio, is there anything that you particularly like or dislike?
We will assess your requirements to see what we can do and make some suggestions.
If you are interested, we will ask for samples of some of your documents and mock up a couple of basic outlines for your comment. If you like them, we will ask you to send us fuller details so we can review them and prepare a formal quotation.
If you want us to go ahead, we will request a deposit to cover 25% of the total cost. We will start work as soon as we have received your deposit. A template for the site will be produced and you will be asked to approve this in writing before the data is entered. Depending on the amount of work required, the coding might take a couple of months but you will be updated on our progress during this period.
When the site is complete, an invoice for 50% of the total cost will be issued. Upon payment being received, we will supply a zip file containing all necessary files for the website to you so that you can upload them to a host of your choice. If any functional corrections are required, Aries Research will make these before issuing the final invoice.
You will own the website. You will be responsible for obtaining the domain name and hosting and for uploading the files to publish the site although we can assist with this if necessary. Aries Research is responsible for the design and functionality.
Aries Research will suggest suitable free software to you so that you will be able to update your own site. Alternatively, we can do this for you for a fee.
You are obliged to check the copyright status of any documents which you supply to us and to confirm that you have obtained the necessary permissions. Images such as census returns or parish register extracts or newspaper articles cannot be included on websites without the consent of the copyright owner. With photographs and postcards, copyright rests with the photographer and normally continues for seventy years after the photographer's death although regulations vary from one country to another.
Aries Research will not include any data relating to living individuals on a family website unless the express permission of that individual has been obtained by the customer.
You are responsible for the accuracy of any family information supplied. Aries Research will not verify this information or expand on it unless you request our research service.
Our preferred method of payment is Paypal but we also accept cheques.
